It was with great pleasure that I revisited the University of Derby, where I trained as a social worker. Knowing how busy the roads into Derby can be early in the morning, Steve and I arrived over an hour ahead of schedule!
We took advantage of the great facilities the University has to offer with a coffee in the refectory before meeting with my former Lecturer Pauline Green, which was a pleasant walk down memory lane for us both.

I met with Practice Learning Coordinator, Paul Reed, who bagged his own signed copy of the book.

I began by talking about my own background in social work and explaining how Known to Social Services came to be written.

I was encouraged by Pauline to speak honestly to the students about my own experiences in the workplace. I discussed the importance of social worker's possessing emotional resilience in order to maximise their potential in the work place, using examples from my own career to illustrate the point.
There was a short question and answer session, after which, the students had the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of Known to Social Services.

May I take this opportunity to thank Pauline for the invitation to speak to Year One Students on this occasion and to wish all the students great success in their chosen careers.
Freya
